Description
The extent of the damage done by using modern oils in vintage engines is the subject of debate, but there is no argument that it has much lower zinc content than what they were designed for. The oil industry lowered zinc content to help lower harmful emissions, and newer engines are built with that in mind. The older ones however seem to experience excessive wear in the valve train area. Pushrods, and the contact surface between lifters and camshafts take the worst beating. Overhead cam engines also wear more where the cam contacts the tappet or valve tip.
