1955-57 Replacement Horn Installation

Finding a set of working, restorable original horns for your classic car can be a daunting (and expensive) task. While many aftermarket horns are functional, they often look out of place under the hood of a beautifully restored Classic. Since the horns are prominently displayed near the front of the engine bay, it’s essential they look just right.

To solve this, we’ve developed a set of high/low replacement horns that closely resemble the original 1955-56 horns and mount in the factory horn location for all 1955-57 models.

Parts List

  • 57-177558-1: 1955-57 High/Low Note Horns

Tools Needed

  • Crimping pliers
  • 1/2" wrench

Time Frame

Estimated Time: 30 minutes

Installation Steps

1. Understanding Replacement Horns

  • Most aftermarket replacement horns look generic, often coming with a universal mounting bracket and male spade connectors. These require modifications to the wiring harness for 1955-56 models.

2. The New Horns (Image 2)

  • Features of PIN 57-177558-1 Horns:
    • Closely resemble the original 1955-56 horns.
    • Constructed with a steel dome and a durable plastic body.
    • Can be chromed for a custom look if desired.
    • Feature high/low notes like the original horns.

3. Mounting the Horns (Image 3)

  • Use the included mounting bolts and serrated washers to attach the horns to the upper bolts on the radiator filler panel.

4. Electrical Connections (Image 4a, 4b)

  • For 1955-56 Models:
    • The horns accept forked terminals, compatible with the original connectors.
  • For 1957 Models:
    • Install the new supplied wire terminals onto the horn wires for compatibility.

Benefits

These replacement horns offer a visually authentic look, great sound quality, and a cost-effective alternative to restoring original horns. Whether your goal is functionality or authenticity, these horns are an excellent choice.
